10 Wines to Drink In Summer

10 Flaweless Summer Wines

White, Rose and Red…find out why these beauties pair with Summer!

The sun is out and, as much as I love Rosé-all-day, I’m inspired to mix it up this summer. Fortunately, there are several white and red wines that are ideal for summer drinking too. This 10 wine round up is inspired by the food we enjoy in the heat and is inclusive of all the colors.

10 Flaweless Wines for Summer

  1. Albariño – I picked one from Rías Baixas, Spain that has a mineral edge and floral peach aromas. It’s absolutely made for shellfish! Try this easy recipe for Flaweless Steamed Clams with Albariño, Fefinanes $23

  2. Chardonnay – Winemaker Ntsiki Biyela has an incredible history as the first female black winemaker in South Africa and her Chardonnay is remarkable! Nisiki told me that she loves to pair this wine with a traditional African chicken tomato stew. Aslina, Chardonnay $22

  3. Sauvignon Blanc – Do you love Sancerre? Me too; but I like to head across the road in Loire France to Touraine and enjoy the same Sauvignon Blanc grape for (usually) a better price! This one is by the amazing woman wine maker Noëlla Morantin and is crisp, lively and Flaweless with goat cheese! Check out this Blog all about food and French wine pairings with Touraine Sauvignon "Chez Charles", Noëlla Morantin $26

  4. Riesling – A super yummy and ever-so-slightly sweet beauty from the Mosel in Germany. Its racy acidity makes it a match for just about any food but I love it with something spicy! Riesling Feinherb, Später-Veit $17

  5. Zweigelt– I’m talkin’ a rosy and sparkling version from Austria. The bubbles are delicate and dry, yet show an abundance of red-berried fruit. An excellent apéritif wine to pair with cured meats or fish. Try it with a Flaweless Cheese & Charcuterie Plate at your next summer get-together. Sparkling Rosé, Erdenlied NV $15

  6. Rosé – I love a Rosé from Côtes de Provence especially when the blend of grapes are Grenache dominant. It is fresh, crisp and dry style is a masterful match for a juicy burger. Côtes de Provence Rosé "St. Honorat," Les Mesclances $25

  7. Cool-Climate Pinot Noir – Lets head to Germany and grab a Spätburgunder (SHPAYT-bur-GUHN-der)! It pairs flawelessly with grilled chicken, duck or mushrooms. It’s a must-try with my recipe for Duck Breast with Sancerre Rouge Jus! Did you know that Sancerre Rouge is also a Pinot Noir!?? 💃 Pinot Noir "Tuniberg", Dr. Heger $22

  8. Gamay – This classic expression of the Gamay grape from Beaujolais in Burgundy will get even more awesome with some cedar plank salmon. Fleurie "Les Vieux Granits," Ch. du Chatelard $20

  9. Schiava – This grape creates wine that smell like roses and cotton candy! It’s truly summer in a glass and I love enjoying it a little chilled with Thai food. Schiava "Hub" Untermoserhof $28

  10. Frappato – “Drinking Frappato is like jumping into a giant pool of brightly-colored plastic balls.” - Wine Folly I LOVE this Sicilian wine served slightly chilled with my Crispy Skin Salmon and Kabocha recipe. COS, Frappato $28
